| Born September 29, 1939, in Birmingham, Alabama. Graduated from Woodlawn High School in the Class of 1957. Attended Auburn University for two years until appointed to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, where he graduated in 1963 and was commissioned Lieutenant (JG) US Navy. He served with distinction in the US Navy Submarine Service, swiftly rose to the rank of Lieutenant and was the Engineering Officer of the USS Scorpion at time of its tragic loss. |
Lost at sea off the Azores in the North Atlantic
with all 99 officers and crew members aboard the USS Scorpion on 22 May 1968,
in the 28th year of his young life.
A brilliant young man and distinguished Naval Officer.
